The war memorial in Market Square, Ulverston, Cumbria. (© Joan Martin, Photo North). This junction of Queen Street and Daltongate was the site of a 16th century market cross and is now occupied by the Ulverston war memorial. Ulverston was granted a Market Charter by King Edward I in 1280, which gave authority for a Thursday market and an annual September fair.

This short walk takes you around the centre of Ulverston to visit 14 places of interest which have been awarded blue plaques. Each blue plaque gives a brief account of the role played by that place in the history of the town.
